Founder’s Day is a meaningful celebration of God’s blessing on the Good Samaritan Society every year, but this year we turned 95 years old!
Here in Olathe, we didn’t open until 1951, but we love to celebrate Founder’s Day. Every year we reach out to seniors in the community and do a service project. This year we decided to expand our outreach to serve over 100 seniors, and asked some special friends to help us purchase and install tub rails to reduce falls at the Olathe Towers and College Way Village, a HUD sponsored senior community.
Our sponsors did not hesitate to make great things happen, and we want to give special thanks to the following for their donations to purchase materials: Olathe Medical Center, Knappenberger Veterinary Clinic, Capitol Federal, Central Bank of the Midwest, Payne and Brockway, Bob D. Campbell and Company, and Summit Care.
In addition to making a financial donation, the following sponsors provided more than 40 volunteers to help us get the job done: A.L. Huber, Inc., Farmer’s Bank of Kansas City, the Olathe Chamber of Commerce, and HMN Architects. Special thanks to the students of OATC and their sponsor, who came to volunteer on the day of the event!
Our focus on safety is based on these sobering facts: More than one-third of seniors over age 65 fall each year. And falls account for 25 percent of all hospital admissions and 40% of all rehab/skilled care admissions. Our goal is to reduce these statistics in the communities we serve.
You can see that residents and volunteers alike enjoyed this experience, and look forward to making a difference again in 2018. We want to say thank you to everyone who participated – from volunteers and staff members to residents who received and welcomed, to our wonderful Sponsors who made it all possible.
